EDUCATION AND CAREER SEMINARS EDUCATION AND CAREER SEMINARS are designed, in collaboration with the Danbury National Education Association, Western Connecticut State University and the Danbury Chapter of Concerned Black Men to make students and parents aware of the career opportunities available in the greater Danbury area. The events aim to relate the middle (grades 6-8), high school (grades 9-12), and higher education experience to the career opportunities beyond formal schooling. Support and encouragement for women and minorities in career area specialties are highlighted. Program objectives:
Demonstrate the importance of solid educational background to success in high school, college (or other forms of post high school education and life);
Encourage middle school students to pursue excellence in education and provide tools and resources to assist students; Convince parents of the importance of their active participation in their children's education, PTO, homework, visibility in school, etc.; and
Raise expectations for parents and students. Event Characteristics
All-day event. Speakers representing targeted career areas; school guidance personnel and School to Career Coordinators; large group plenary, small group sessions, breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Benefits to Students and Families
