FOUNDATION OVERVIEW

Noel and Cora Hord established The Hord Foundation, Inc. in January of 1993.

PURPOSE:
To promote the education and enhance the career opportunities of young people of African-American descent by providing post-secondary school scholarships.

USE OF CONTRIBUTIONS AND SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED:

On hundred percent of all contributions to The Hord Foundation, Inc. are distributed for scholarship purposes. The Foundation's administrative expenses, including the cost of the Annual Ball, are funded through private philanthropic and corporate support. From its inception through 2007, the Hord Foundation has awarded over two and a half million dollars ($2,500,000) in scholarships. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the scholarship recipient's level of academic achievement and financial needs.

NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS:

Over 700 scholarships as of December 31, 2007

GEOGRAPHIC AREA:
Applications are accepted from students in high schools in Danbury, Bethel, Brookfield, New Fairfield, New Milford/Washington area, Newtown, Ridgefield and Redding .

STATUS & AFFILIATIONS:

The Hord Foundation, Inc. is a qualified non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization affiliated with the Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America (Dollars for Scholars).

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Applications are accepted from students residing within the Foundation's geographic area beginning in early January. All applications must be postmarked by April 1. Application forms are available by mail from: The Hord Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 4671 , Danbury , CT 06813 .

SELECTION PROCESS:

Candidates are evaluated by a selection committee of community volunteers based on five criteria - academic achievement, community involvement, financial need, character and integrity, and potential for intellectual achievement.

GOVERNANCE:
The Hord Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees and a Board of Advisory Directors.
