Hord supporters give students hope

Guests at the annual Hord Foundation Charity Ball at the Amber Room in Danbury were asked to bring their "feathers, fringes and fedoras" and to party "like it's the 1920s."

The formal-dress dance and dinner held Saturday night is a major fundraiser for college scholarships for local students of color. The foundation hopes to give out about $200,000 in scholarships this year, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

The master of ceremonies was Immaculate High School alumnus and artist Dana Smith. The 40-year-old Smith is a graduate of Harvard University and has enjoyed a career as an actor, playwright and producer of his own denim brand.
